The house

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage has wood-paneled interiors, vaulted ceilings and an open-concept great room. Glass sliding doors connect the living area to a covered lanai with ocean views. The dining table seats six. The historic home was once frequented by Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.

Both separate primary suites have ocean views, a queen bed and an ensuite bathroom. The first suite also has a pull-out futon. The fully equipped kitchen includes a refrigerator, oven, stove, dishwasher, toaster, dishes, utensils and cookware.

Outside are a private grassy oceanfront yard and a covered lanai, with seasonal private beach access through a gated path. Beach equipment rentals are available for an additional charge. Free Wi-Fi, a dedicated workspace, a washer and dryer, linens, towels, essentials, hot water and free on-site parking are provided. The home has a private entrance and self check-in and check-out. There is no air-conditioning system; the open-air design uses trade winds for natural cooling.

Pounders Beach, the Polynesian Cultural Center, BYU–Hawaii and Laie Hawaii Temple are within walking distance. Hukilau Beach, Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, Kahuku shrimp trucks and Turtle Bay golf are a short drive away. A car is necessary.

The cottage is offered as a monthly rental, with a fixed monthly rate regardless of nights stayed. Extra guest fees may apply. Local wildlife can include geckos, roosters and peacocks.
