Neighborhood

Set in the vibrant heart of North-East London, this neighbourhood offers a brilliant blend of laid-back residential charm and the unmistakable energy of East London. Nestled around Mildmay Park, it sits beautifully between the characterful streets of Canonbury, the creative buzz of Dalston and the independent spirit of Newington Green, making it a fantastic base for guests who want to experience a more local side of London while remaining within easy reach of the city’s biggest attractions.

The area has a wonderfully relaxed, community-focused feel, with leafy streets, attractive period homes and plenty of independent cafés, pubs and restaurants dotted throughout the surrounding neighbourhoods. Mildmay Park provides a lovely green pocket close to home, while nearby Balls Pond Road and Southgate Road are packed with everyday conveniences and local places to eat and drink. Guests can easily settle into the rhythm of the neighbourhood, whether that means grabbing a morning coffee, enjoying a leisurely brunch, picking up something delicious for dinner or heading out for an evening drink.

One of the biggest attractions of the area is its position between some of London’s most exciting neighbourhoods. Just a short journey away, Dalston is known for its lively atmosphere, eclectic restaurants, late-night bars, music venues and vibrant cultural scene. Its famous Kingsland Road is particularly well known for its fantastic Turkish and international food, while Dalston’s creative energy makes it a great place to explore after dark. For something a little more peaceful, Canonbury offers picturesque residential streets, elegant architecture and a charming village-like atmosphere, with independent cafés and quiet green spaces to discover.

The nearby Newington Green is another local favourite, offering a beautiful historic square surrounded by cafés, restaurants and independent businesses. From here, it is easy to wander towards Islington and Upper Street, one of North London’s best-known destinations for dining, shopping, theatres and nightlife. Guests can spend an afternoon browsing boutiques, stop for dinner at one of the many restaurants, or enjoy a drink before catching a show.

For those looking to explore further afield, the neighbourhood is exceptionally well connected. Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction stations are both around a short walk away, while Canonbury Station is also within easy reach. Highbury & Islington is another useful transport hub nearby, providing access to the Victoria Line as well as rail and Overground services. There are also numerous bus routes running through the surrounding streets, making it straightforward to reach central London, the City and many of the capital’s best-known neighbourhoods.

From here, guests can easily make their way towards Shoreditch and Hoxton for independent shops, street art, galleries, restaurants and buzzing nightlife, or continue south towards Liverpool Street, Spitalfields and the City of London. Central London is also comfortably accessible, with major attractions such as the West End, Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Soho and the South Bank all within easy reach by public transport.

For a slower-paced day, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy London on foot. The surrounding streets lead towards peaceful corners of Canonbury and De Beauvoir Town, while the nearby parks provide space to escape the bustle of the city. Guests can also take a scenic walk towards the Regent’s Canal, where waterside paths offer a different perspective of East London and connect towards Haggerston, Hoxton and beyond.

Food lovers are particularly well placed here, with an exciting mix of cuisines and independent eateries spread across Dalston, Canonbury, Newington Green and Islington. The area is ideal for guests who enjoy discovering neighbourhood favourites rather than relying solely on the traditional tourist hotspots. From casual cafés and cosy pubs to international restaurants and lively bars, there is always somewhere new to try.

Other things to note

We kindly request that you read the house rules prior to booking and respect them during your stay. Parties or events of any kind will not be tolerated. Violation of this rule will result in eviction from the property and charges for any damages or additional cleaning required. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Getting Around

Getting around from this neighbourhood is wonderfully straightforward, with several Overground stations, frequent bus routes and plenty of walkable destinations nearby. Its position between Islington, Dalston and Newington Green means guests can enjoy the best of North and East London without needing to rely on a car.

By Overground: The closest and most convenient station is Dalston Kingsland, which is around a 5-minute walk away. From here, guests can travel along the Mildmay line towards Highbury & Islington and onwards towards areas such as Camden and West London, or east towards Hackney and Stratford. Dalston Junction is also nearby, providing another useful Overground connection, while Canonbury Station is approximately a 9-minute walk away.

Highbury & Islington is particularly useful for reaching central London, as it connects with the Victoria Line, allowing quick journeys towards King's Cross, Oxford Circus, Victoria and beyond. From Dalston Kingsland, Highbury & Islington is only a few minutes away by train.

By bus: There are plenty of bus stops within a few minutes' walk, making it easy to explore the surrounding neighbourhoods without changing trains. Routes serving the nearby area provide connections towards Islington, Stoke Newington, Finsbury Park, London Bridge, Waterloo and Oxford Circus, among other destinations.

For example, Newington Green is particularly easy to reach, with the 236 bus taking around 6 minutes from the Dalston Kingsland area. It is also only around an 11-minute walk, making it a lovely option on a sunny day.

Walking: The neighbourhood is well suited to exploring on foot. Guests can easily walk to Dalston, Newington Green, Canonbury and De Beauvoir Town, with plenty of cafés, restaurants, pubs and independent shops to discover along the way. Walking is often one of the nicest ways to experience this part of London, particularly as the surrounding streets transition from the lively atmosphere of Dalston into the quieter, leafy streets of Canonbury.

Cycling: Cycling is another convenient option for getting around North and East London, particularly for guests keen to cover more ground while enjoying the city at street level. The relatively close proximity of destinations such as Islington, Shoreditch, Hoxton and Hackney makes this a particularly useful way to explore.

Getting to London's major attractions: The excellent transport connections make it easy to reach many of London's best-known landmarks. Guests can head to Oxford Circus and the West End via the Victoria Line, travel towards King's Cross and St Pancras for onward rail connections, or make their way south towards London Bridge and the City by bus. Shoreditch, Hoxton and Spitalfields are also particularly easy to reach, making it simple to combine sightseeing with some of East London's best restaurants, markets and nightlife.

Taxis & driving: Taxis and private hire vehicles are readily available throughout London, although public transport is generally the easiest and most efficient way to explore the city. As with much of central London, driving can be slower during busy periods and parking is limited, so guests staying here are unlikely to need a car.

Top tip: London transport is easiest with contactless payment or an Oyster card. Guests should check the latest route information before setting off, as journey times and services can vary throughout the day.
