Allow maintenance staff property access on Tuesdays and Fridays for pool maintenance. Use the handrail on the outdoor wooden staircase and wear appropriate footwear around the pool because surfaces can be slippery when wet. Despite pest control, occasional encounters with insects, lizards, rodents and reptiles are part of the tropical setting and do not constitute a breach of the rental policy. Cleaning fee: $95. Service fee: $89, varying with the number of days.

Getting there

A 4x4 vehicle is mandatory. The access road is well maintained but steep in places. Playa Matapalo is a seven-minute drive away. The lower-floor bedrooms are accessed by an outdoor wooden staircase that can be slippery when wet; use the handrail. San Jose airport is three hours away by car. Alternatively, a 20-minute flight from SJO to Quepos airport is followed by a 20-minute drive. Occasional power outages and interruptions to the spring-fed water supply can occur.
